Acropora globiceps
A threatened Indo-Pacific coral recorded by NOAA
“I grow in thick, finger-like branches, always close together. I live across warm oceans, from the Indian Ocean to the South Pacific. You may find me in shallow reefs, reef flats, lagoons, and places where strong waves keep moving over me. My branches are short and tight, built to hold on. But I am seldom common. Even when I am there, there are not many of me. I stay close to the reef, making small spaces where life can gather. But the water is changing, and the waves I once knew are not the only force I have to survive. If I disappear, another small shelter in the reef disappears with me.”
